Accounts Policy

Accounts

Accurate accounts will be kept, recording all Income and Expenditure.
All monies received will be lodged to the school current account and used for the purposes for which they were received.
All expenditure will be by cheque or, in some cases, e.g. ESB bills, telephone bills, by direct debit.
The school accounts will be certified annually by O’Donovan & Co., Accountants, Callan, Co. Kilkenny.

Income

Department of Education and Science Grants

The school derives most of its income from Department of Education and Science capitation grants.
The Department of Education and Science also pays an annual grant for specified Minor Capital Works. The school may allow this grant to accumulate in order to pay for some upcoming work, which would cost more than the annual grant.
The Department of Education and Science also pay grants for other specified purposes from time to time, e.g. Physical education grant, Science Grant, etc.
All the above grants are paid into the school account by electronic transfer.

Other Grants

From time to time the school receives other grants from various bodies for specific purposes, e.g. NCTE/HEA grants re Control Technology.
All such grants will be lodged in the school’s current account.

Other Income

From time to time the Scoil Naomh Fiachra Parents Council donate money to the school for the purchase of specific equipment, books or as a subvention towards some school activities, e.g. swimming or speech and drama classes.

Money is also received from pupils for at certain times of the year for swimming classes, dancing classes and speech and drama classes, school tours, etc.

Pupils also donate money to various charities, e.g. Trocaire, Bothar, etc.

All the above income will be lodged to the school account and used for the purposes for which it was received.

Expenditure

All monies received in grants for specific purposes will be spent according to the conditions specified in the grants.

All monies collected from parents/pupils will be spent for the purposes for which it was collected.
Where the Scoil Naomh Fiachra Parents Council donate money to the school for the purchase of specific equipment the equipment will be purchased by cheque drawn on the school account and a copy of the receipt will be given to the Parents Council as their receipt.

The Board of Management will use the funds at its disposal, to maintain and equip the school to the highest standards possible, within the limits imposed by income levels. It is our aim that Scoil Naomh Fiachra will be a safe, comfortable, and well-appointed premises, which will meet the educational needs of our children and will be conducive to learning in the context of the New Revised Curriculum.
