SCHOOL TRIP 2019  TO CLARA LARA

The children completed individual projects on Ethiopia. The standard was so high. Well done to all!

May
As part of our green schools initiative, children learned all about their carbon footprint they thought of lots of ways to reduce our carbon footprint especially in the area of travel and transport.  Some idea the children came up with are for parents to arrange car pooling, walk to places if they are near by and leave the
car at home. Cycle instead of driving.
In science(STEM) children built lego cars and we measured the distance they travelled.

The children LOVE  receiving their letters from their penpals in  Kealkill National school in Cork.

April
The children made tin foil sculptures with Mrs.Roche and learned about shadows. Thanks Mrs.Roche the children loved making them and they were so excited to show me and tell me about their sculpture !

ESB Science Blast Project – RDS Dublin

The Senior Room are in full swing as preparations continue for our entry into the ESB Science Blast on the 6th of March in the RDS Dublin. So far the children have undergone three different fitness tests and also three reaction tests using sound, sight and touch stimuli. We must now analyse our data and figure out if there is a relation between levels of fitness and our ability to react to different stimuli.

 Christmas Plays 2018

On Tuesday 18th of December we held our Christmas Plays. A brilliant day of entertainment was had by all. A huge thanks to all our teachers, parents and of course our children who were the stars of the show. Everyone worked extremely hard to ensure that everything ran smoothly. Thanks to Paul Phelan who built our stage again this year and to the Parent’s Council who organised the Christmas Trolley raffle and DVDs. From everyone in Scoil Naomh Fiachra, we wish you all a Happy Christmas.

Procedural Writing

For the month of October we learned all about the procedural writing genre. We finished up by writing some recipes for smoothies which we all rather enjoyed. Yum Yum!!

Colour Wheels

This week we mixed our primary colours in order to make other secondary colours. We then painted each of the colours  onto our colour wheels.

Letter From Malawi

Tadhg in 5th class received a lovely letter from a little boy called Puaa from Malawi who was given the Christmas Shoebox which Tadhg sent away with the school’s Shoebox collection last Christmas. It was really brilliant to see first hand from the letter what an impact our annual Christmas Shoebox collections are making. Well done to Tadhg and all our pupils who contribute to this charity every Christmas.
