J.J. Kavanagh & Sons Lisdowney Under 13 Hurling Sevens

The Lisdowney Under 13 Hurling Sevens tournament has been running now for approximately 30 years. In that time it has become one of the leading under age hurling tournaments in the country.

This year the tournament had new sponsors – J.J. Kavanagh & Sons – and the new sponsors appeared to bring a change of fortune for the home club. In all the years of the tournament, the host club had never succeeded in winning the Sweeney Cup. Lisdowney had reached the final on two previous occasions, but without success.

This year’s tournament attracted 32 teams from Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Tipperary, Wicklow, Clare, Dublin and Kildare.

There was great rejoicing in the parish when Lisdowney won the Sweeney Cup, defeating O’Loughlins in the semi-final and Bennettsbridge in the final.
