Friendship Week

This was a special week in Scoil Naomh Fiachra as we celebrated Friendship Week 2016. We focused on positive relationships, being kind, caring and looking out for each other to ensure everyone is always included. During the week a lot of activities took place throughout the school including buddy fun where the older children partnered up with the younger children to read books together, complete art activities and carry out exercises on being a good friend. Everyone in the school did a random act of kindness and each child also had a compliment box where other children wrote nice things about them before putting them into their boxes. The children loved reading these compliments at home. We also began our collection for local people in need this Christmas which will run right up until the holidays. Finally, we unveiled our new ‘Friendship Bench’ which was skillfully made and donated by one of our board of management members Kieran Costelloe and varnished by the Tallis family. The children will put their own stamp on the bench when they design and paint it later in the year. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to our very successful ‘Friendship Week 2016’.

On Thursday 6th of April, the Senior Room and Green School’s Committee went on a field trip to see how the SLB Group Water Scheme works. This group water scheme provides clean running water to many houses and farms in our local community. Roisín and Joe from the National Federation of Group Water Schemes guided us through the day. Paddy and Angela Mullally came along and explained how they maintain the scheme on a daily basis. We were blown away by what we learned and we have already begun our projects on the local scheme.
