Proclamation Day
On the 15th of March, Scoil Naomh Fiachra celebrated Proclamation Day. We began by welcoming everybody. Brandon read out the Proclamation from 1916 as Pádraig Pearce did from the steps of the GPO. This was followed by the reading of our “Proclamation for a New Generation” which was written by the students of Scoil Naomh Fiachra. This can be seen further down on this page. After this, Aoibhe and Céin gave us some information on the History of the Tricolour and the protocols that surround it. The flag was then risen by Charlie, who is the oldest student in the school. After the flag was raised we celebrated with Irish songs, poems, tin whistle and Irish dancing. The parents then viewed some of our project work on 1916. A brilliant day was had by all. Thanks to Denis O’Connor who took photographs for the school on the day.
Seachtain na Gaeilge
We are celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge in our school this week. We are making an extra effort to speak Irish throughout the day and chidlren earn a raffle ticket and will go into a draw at the end of the week to win a prize. We had a ceolchoirm on Thursday which you will see in photos below and to finish the week off we are having a tráth na gceist.
Proclamation for a New Generation
The pupils of Scoil Naomh Fiachra have been busy re-imagining the 1916 Proclamation. A lot of hard work has gone into having this document ready for Proclamation Day on the 15th of March. It will be read out on the day before we raise our flag at 12 midday. All parents and wider members of the community are invited into the school on Proclamation Day to celebrate with us from 11:45am.
1916 Centenary Celebrations
On Wednesday 13th of January Scoil Noamh Fiachra welcomed three members of the Irish Defence Forces to our school to present our school with The National Flag.
The presentation included a history of the national flag and the correct protocol for its use. The flag was then presented to Séan Dowling and the Proclamation was presented to Katie Brennan. The Defence Forces member also read part of the Proclamation assisted by Brandon in 5th class.
The children sang and played Amhrán na Bhfiann and Oró Se Do Bheatha Bhaile on the tin whistle. It was a really memorable day. Thanks to everyone involved.
On the 15th of March (Proclamation Day), every school in the country will raise their flags at 12 o’clock. Parents are invited into the school for this event and the children will perform a number of songs and tunes to mark the event.
